New Zealand offers a diverse range of game – the main animals being Red Stag,Tahr and Chamois.

Aotearoa Safaris is based in the Central North Island comprising some of the most spectacular alpine and forest scenery in New Zealand.

The hunting area for Red Stag is absolute wilderness and offers both Free Range and Fair Chase Estate-style hunting.

This area was host to the initial Red Deer liberations in New Zealand dating back to 1919. The early stock was sourced from the famous English Parks of “GREAT WINDSOR” “WARNHAM” and “INVERMARK”.

Tahr and Chamois are hunted in the Southern Alps. These hunts can either be conducted on foot or with helicopter assistance.

Small game including Wild Boar, Goats, Rabbit, Hare and game birds including Pheasant, Duck and Turkey are available.

We hunt Water Buffalo on a concession in the Northern Territory in Australia – Cull hunts are available in addition to Trophy hunts.

SEASONS

The “Roar” is by far the most exciting time to hunt Red Deer and run’s from late February to early June. Hunting is however available to the end of August for stags in hard antler, when the stags cast their antlers to begin the cycle of growth again.

Other species are available year round. Wilderness trout fishing is available all year with only some rivers being subject to annual closed seasons to protect spawning trout.

FRESHWATER

The Central North Island is renowned as a world class wild freshwater fishing destination. The “World Flyfishing Championships” were held here in 2008 along with the Oceania and New Zealand Fly Fishing Championships in 2009.

We offer absolute wilderness fishing in the renowned Whakapapa or Whanganui Rivers by wading or raft for trophy rainbow or brown trout. Lake Taupo is only 30 minutes away if open water fishing is your preference. Or experience a combination of Lake & River fishing, which is available all year round on a guided daily rate basis.

SALTWATER

New Zealand is a natural saltwater fishing ground and home to World Record size Striped Marlin, Broadbill Swordfish, Mako, Thresher, Hammerhead and Thresher Sharks, Tuna Mahimahi and many bottom species.
